THE IDEA
OMP is a hydrogel technology platform developer. First product being developed is an ingestible pill that will replace expensive gastric bypass surgery for obese patients and provide a safe, affordable obesity therapy that does not have unpleasant side effects
THE TECHNOLOGY
Once swallowed, the proprietary hydrogel is formulated to (i)expand rapidly in the stomach, resulting in a feeling of satiety; (ii)stay in the stomach for a prolonged period of time, so it is effective 24/7 and lasts several weeks; (iii)break down gradually and pass naturally, ensuring safety. The technology is also being investigated for long-acting delivery of medications that could help with treatment and compliance for a range of other conditions. Founded by Prof. Jan Czenurska, a world-renowned Professor of Materials Science at the University of Oxford with an expertise in hydrogels and Dr. Hutan Ashrafian, a pioneering bariatric surgeon at Imperial College London. Dr. Camilla Easter and Dr. Nick Edwards, two medically trained entrepreneurs, joined Oxford Medical Products to solve one of the world’s toughest and most urgent medical challenges
